Bear Baxter
(they+them)
Performance Artist, Writer & Musician
Bear is a queer, white, non-binary-femme-hearted-butch-dreamboat who was sent to earth to make it gayer and more romantic. Originally from the Sunshine State™, Bear is a poet, a playwright, a singer/songwriter, a performance artist, a rock-star and a cowboy; living, creating and sharing stories about themselves, inviting others to do the same. They now live, work and play on the lands of the Wurunjeri and Boon Wurrung people (Melbourne, VIC).
Bear is committed to creating space for trans and gender-diverse people in the music and theatre worlds. Their work is about vulnerability and human connection. At their own risk, Bear uses their life experiences to challenge and discuss ideas around identity, and "coming out" multiple times in life. These works of self-discovery invariably lead to the next project of exploration. Their solo works include; ALL MY BEST (Melbourne, 2019), SLOW JAMS & SHENANIGANS (Melbourne & San Francisco, 2019), SHARE MY BLANKETS (Melbourne Fringe Fest 2017, & MELT Fest' Brisbane 2018). They were honoured to appear on the QUEERING CREATIVITY panel (Mod. Benjamin Law) for MELT 2018 and 2019.
They completed a Bachelor of Creative Industries (QUT) Music & Entertainment (2012-2015) and have returned to university (pray for them) to study a Graduate Diploma of Psychology (University of Melbourne).
